BELLEFONTAINE- Friday was not the typical day at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center. Students donned their favorite sports team gear instead of the traditional lab attire in celebration of Super Bowl Sunday, and Academic Director, Joel Staudter and Masonry instructor, Terry Hedges, were duct taped to a wall.
The students at Ohio Hi-Point participated in a “duct tape a teacher to a wall” fundraiser held by the Early Childhood Education students to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Students placed money into designated teacher bins all week and the teacher with the most money raised, was duct taped to the wall. Academic Director, Joel Staudter, and Masonry instructor, Terry Hedges, tied; therefore, both were taped to the wall.
“It’s a great cause,” stated Joel Staudter as he was being taped to the wall, “I’m happy to be part of it, and our students are doing a fantastic job of raising funds for the JDRF. I just wish I could scratch behind my left ear.”
Joseph Boop, age 6, who has Juvenile Diabetes, had the honors of placing the first piece of tape to help secure his grandfather, Terry Hedges, to the wall. After the first piece of tape was secure, students and staff joined in, buying pieces of tape for 25 cents or rolls of duct tape for five dollars.
Overall, the students raised $201.31 from the fundraiser to support the JDRF.
The Early Childhood Education students, who were the masterminds behind the event, are eager to continue fundraising for the JDRF. To date, the ECE students have raised $745 for the JDRF this school year. The next event, Battle of the Bands, kicks off March 23 at Ohio Hi-Point’s Bellefontaine main campus. Entry Forms to perform during the Battle are now available at ohiohipoint.com.
