BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio –On July 19-23, more than 280 students and advisers descended on the campus of Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio, for the SkillsUSA Summer Leadership Conference. Representing 35 schools, these students received the necessary training to leader their local chapter of SkillsUSA for the upcoming school year. Daily activities included: a Creed Challenge, Leadership Sessions, Team Building Course, Community Service Project and Competitions.

Students who attended the conference included:

• Cody Hayman (Bellefontaine H.S.) - Statesman Award, Champions Club

• Robert Perez (Bellefontaine H.S.) – Statesman Award, Champions Club

• Corrine Miller (Graham H.S.) – Statesman Award, Champions Club

• Austin Legge (Bellefontaine H.S.) – Statesman Award, Champions Club, Silver Medal for the Opening and Closing Contest, Silver Medal for Extemporaneous Speaking

The Statesman Award is one of the highest honors earned at the conference, recognizing team members who have demonstrated leadership skills and mastered certain requirements in leadership training.

Krystal Puff, a graduate of Ohio Hi-Point and Indian Lake High School, was selected as one of fourteen group leaders to work as a group leader to help develop leadership skills in the campers.

SkillsUSA provides its 31,505 career-technical education members the opportunity to participate in local, regional, state and national competitive events, run for elective offices and participate in leadership training. It also encourages students to give back to the community through various community service activities.
