New students were treated to unique classroom activities in both the academic classrooms and career-technical labs. In Mrs. Erin Dearth’s environmental science (pictured) class, for instance, the new students built solar cookers out of pizza boxes in order to make s’mores, while in Dearth’s anatomy and physiology classroom, dill pickles were the subject of an autopsy project (pictured). Both activities engaged the new students, coming from 14 different partner schools and many meeting for the first time, in team building activities.
Other activities throughout the day included guest speakers from area businesses and colleges, golfing on a future golf green on campus, a special demonstration from a renowned chef and more. Students also picked up their brand new laptop computers, which will be theirs for the duration of their time at Ohio Hi-Point and enable them to have access to 21st Century Learning.
