It’s no fish tale. The Ohio Fish and Shrimp Festival at Freshwater Farms of Ohio, just north of Urbana, is getting bigger. This year, the festival will offer three days—not two—of tasty Ohio grown fish and shrimp, served with generous portions of music and family activities.
The festivities of the ninth annual celebration—at Ohio’s largest indoor fish hatchery—will start Friday, September 17 with Music4Meals. The benefit concert, featuring a mix of regional jazz, rock and blues bands, will raise funds and food for local food pantries and the Caring Kitchen’s backpack program, which provides eligible children food to take home for the weekend.
For information on making donations or volunteering at Music4Meals, contact Jamie Shaffner, 653-7510.

The festival will again offer a full line-up of bluegrass bands Saturday and Sunday. A wide variety of food vendors will serve their specialties all three days.

And as in previous years, Freshwater Farms is providing nonprofit groups free space for fund-raising activities throughout the festival. Call Freshwater Farms, 652-3701, for information.

The festival will be open September 17, 5-9 p.m.; September 18, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; and September 19, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission and parking are free. The farm is located at 2624 N. U.S. 68, one mile north of Urbana.
